TERENCE JAMES FRENCH
"FRENCHY"

30 JUNE 1955 ~ 19 APRIL 2011

Terry and his wife, Jan

Bexley FC 1998-1999 ~ Terry French front row, far right.

It is with regret that I have to inform everyone at Bexley that Frenchy passed away this morning. Terry lost his brave battle with cancer and will be greatly missed.

Our thoughts go out to his lovely wife Jan and his two children Lisa and Craig who he adored.

Terry was the captain of Bexley Seniors and later became the Manager. He has been at the club for 20 years and I have spent every Saturday with terry playing football or golf for all of those years. My Saturday afternoons and Saturday nights in the pub will never be the same again.

I will let everyone know the funeral arrangements when these have been made.

WELL DONE LOFTY!

Cornish born Kieran Burgess, Became the first ever Beer Belly weight champion of the world on Friday night as he defeated the title holder Mustafa Headgurad at Islington’s Glamorous Dogshit Park. The 8ft 6inch boxer who now is a Bexley resident won on points after the judges; Garry Glitter (Obviously having evacuated from Japan), Yogi Bear and Simon Cowell all tallied up a Burgess win. Reports also suggested that Louis Walsh was in the crowd somewhere too but he had no influence or impact on the judging panel.

The 3 round bout was watched by hundreds of fans as the air conditioning in the place wasn’t working. They did a great job in keeping the place a good temperature though. The attendance wasn’t bad either, with Lofty bringing a travelling Army from Bexley of 30 young men and 2 OAP’s. The support the Bexley Bruiser gained during the fight was electrifying and really created an atmosphere that would be envied down the Den.

Lofty started the Fight well keeping close to his opponent and cutting the ring short with his quick footwork and mobility. Every Punch landed was greeted with a Cheer from the Bexley Crowd, even when lofty took a few to the mush as well. It took Kieran the first 2 rounds to land any real punches to his opponent who was wearing his Harley Davidson Moter bike helmet during the fight. Reports have suggested that this was to hide his identity as Deniz Safer did not want to reveal himself as the true opponent in case of an embarrassing defeat, this of course is not verified information, but just reports. Kieran eventually wore his opponent down with his jab, jab, bear hug technique and this is what most impressed the judges… especially Yogi.

The faithfull Bexley supporters drank a lot of beer after and eventually caught the train home in a civilised manor and was complented by British Rail for there Good behaviour. David Suarez from Liverpool who witnessed the fans on the tube said “They were a very well mannered crowd”.

Harry Potter who also happened to be on the train however had a different opinion, “I thought they were a bunch of lairy, drunk, hooligans whose yobbish behaviour really make a statement about British society but apart from the 2 OAP’s I’m talking about the rest of the crowd was ok”.

All in all, the fight was a success and one that will go down in the Burgess Family History as one of its proudest moments, along with Kieran’s 1 day career in the Navy.

Damo: Just around the corner from the Coach and Horses

David: Yeah I know it. Had a lock-in once with some knowledgeable football supporters. Must be West Ham fans – anyway, who in particular?

Bexley Boys Land Cup Double at Under 14 & Under 16

TWO of Bexley FC’s young teams are celebrating after completing a cup double for the club.

Both the U14s and U16s triumphed in their respective Bexley League Cup finals to ensure there would be silverware going into the club’s trophy cabinet this season.

Andre Lewis and Luke Stevens were both on target for the U14s as they overcame Docklands 2-1, much to the delight of manager Daemon Bear.

The U16s turned on the goals beating Our Lady Youth 5-0 and there was more success for the Lewis family as Andre’s older Nathan was among the scorers together with Abdallah Malima (2), Lee Bulling and Josh Eyeoyibo.

Terr
y Peck, who manages the U16s and is also the club chairman, said: “It is a fantastic achievement by both sides and things are looking promising for next year.

“These two victories go some way for making up for the senior side’s recent 2-0 defeat in the Kent Cup final.”

Bexley FC is a charter standard club and is currently working towards becoming a charter standard development club.

It currently has youth teams in the Bexley League and Kent Youth League and two senior teams in the South London Alliance.

Under 13's Hit The Ground Running

Congratulations to Rob and the boys!!
A great start for new Bexley FC Manager Rob Edwards.

Rob is joining Bexley FC as Manager and Coach of our new Kent Under 13 team for season 2009/10.

He is currently running trials at the Club every Tuesday and entered the London Playing Fields 8 a-side Football Festival at the Marathon Ground, Shooters Hill on Sunday 14th June with some of the boys currently training.

They were in a group of 5 teams with some tough opposition. They played 4 group games, with one draw and 3 wins, putting them at the top of the group, going in to a semi final against Gridlockaz. They won this game 2-1 in extra time which put them in the final against Young Guns. The final was a very close competitive game and we finished runners up, losing this match 1-0.

Congratulations to Rob and the boys. A fantastic morning. The boys worked very hard with temperatures in the mid 70's!

Bexley Football Club Achieve the FA Charter Standard Club Award

A Message From Chairman Terry Peck

After many months of hard work by Chris Cook and Lorraine Peck generating, gathering and collating information, reports and policies, we at Bexley FC have been awarded the prestigious FA Charter Standard Club Award. As Sir Trevor Brooking, the FA Director of Football Development states ‘The FA Charter Standard Programme provides recognition that clubs are well run and sustainable, with child protection and safety paramount. It also recognises a club's commitment to coaching, player and coach development, and the raising of standards of behaviour in the game - all of which are big priorities for both me and The FA.’  I am very proud that we are now part of an elite list of Football Clubs and can also display the accredited FA Charter Standard Club Logo.

Congratulations to everyone, what a fantastic achievement!
